Sleep Screening Test
This screening test helps you understand your potential risk of sleep-related breathing disorders, such as obstructive sleep apnoea. It combines two validated tools – the STOP-Bang questionnaire and the Epworth Sleepiness Scale – and scores them together.
Your answers stay on this page unless you choose to have your result sent to you.
About this tool: both questionnaires are scored exactly as a clinician would score them. The result is a guide, not a diagnosis.
Notice & Disclaimer: This screening does not provide a medical diagnosis and does not replace professional medical advice. STOP-Bang was developed and validated by Chung F et al (Anesthesiology 2008 and British Journal of Anaesthesia 2012). The Epworth Sleepiness Scale is © MW Johns 1990–1997, used under licence from Mapi Research Trust (Johns MW, 1991, Sleep 14(6)).
Two questionnaires, one result
STOP-Bang
Eight yes/no items covering snoring, tiredness, witnessed apnoeas, blood pressure, BMI, age, neck size and gender. A score of 3 or more is the threshold our referral form uses for a bulk-billed study.
ExploreEpworth Sleepiness Scale
Eight everyday situations, each scored 0 to 3 for how likely you are to doze. A score of 8 or more means more daytime sleepiness than is usual.
Take it on its ownThen see your GP
Neither questionnaire diagnoses anything. Take your scores and the referral form to your GP, who confirms your eligibility.
